A student ambassador group from the Sagrado Corazón School in Pamplona explains how they wanted to use sports as a way of sharing experiences with migrants their age:
Over the past two years, the Government of Navarra has hosted unaccompanied young migrants in a building right in front of the school, known as the Observation and Reception Reception for Minors, Argaray (COA Argaray). Within a few weeks, they would be placed in long-term residential facilities. Their presence generated some antipathy in the neighbourhood, with a few families fearing what might happen to their children. The project “Pamplona, an Open City” took a stand on finding out how the centre works, and how to change the negative image people in the area had of the young migrants – an image mostly based on hoaxes and unsupported statements.
The idea behind the encounter came from the Navarra Basketball Federation’s initiative, as they began coaching the boys. There was hope of organising a sporting event between the minor migrants and the school students. Once the school administration and Parents’ Association were made fully aware, basketball matches were scheduled according to student timetables, with help from the PE teacher. Unfortunately, Covid-19 prevented the planned matches, but the process throughout helped us get to know each other, as they’re the same age, and break down stereotypes and narratives of hatred about them.
Canastas que acercan
Un grupo de estudiantes embajadoras del Colegio Sagrado Corazón de Pamplona nos cuentan cómo han querido compartir con jóvenes migrantes a través del deporte. Esta ha sido su experiencia:
Desde hace dos años, una casa que está justo en la puerta de nuestro colegio llamada el COA Argaray, ha sido destinada por el Gobierno de Navarra a acoger a jóvenes migrantes menores de edad que no están acompañados por sus familias. Después de unas semanas en este centro se les derivan hacia otros recursos residenciales para una estancia más prolongada. La presencia de estos jóvenes ha causado rechazo en el barrio y en parte de las familias de nuestra comunidad escolar por el temor de que les pueda pasar algo a sus hijos e hijas. Desde el proyecto “Pamplona, ciudad abierta” nos propusimos acercarnos a conocer cómo trabajan en este centro y a contribuir a cambiar la imagen negativa que esos jóvenes allí alojados tienen en el entorno, una imagen que se basa mayoritariamente en bulos e informaciones carentes de ningún fundamento.
La manera de favorecer un encuentro surgió gracias a una iniciativa de la Federación Navarra de Baloncesto que formaba en este deporte a estos jóvenes. La idea fue de organizar encuentros deportivos entre estos jóvenes y los estudiantes del colegio. Después de informar a la dirección del colegio y a la Asociación de Padres y Madres del colegio y con la ayuda del profesor de Educación Física, preparamos los partidos que iban a tener lugar en horario escolar.
Lamentablemente, a causa del Covid-19, estos encuentros no se han podido llevar a cabo pero el proceso que hemos seguido nos ha servido para conocer a estos jóvenes que muchos son de nuestras mismas edades y derribar los estereotipos y discursos de odio que se generan hacia ellos.
Hurbiltzen gaituzten saskiak
Iruñako Sagrado Corazón eskolako ikasle enbaxadore talde batek azaltzen digu nola jarri ziren harremanetan gazte migrante talde batekin eta nola erabili nahi zuten kirola elkarrekin egoteko bide bezala. Hau izan da beraien esperientzia:
Duela bi urtetik hona, gure ikastetxeko atean dagoen etxe bat, COA Argaray izenekoa, Nafarroako Gobernuak bere familiekin batera ez dauden gazte migratzaile adingabeak hartzeko erabili du. Zentro horretan aste batzuk eman ondoren, beste egoitza-baliabide batzuetara bideratzen dituzte, egonaldi luzeagoa egiteko. Gazte horien presentziak gure eskola-komunitateko auzoan eta zenbait familiatan gaitzespena eragin du, beren seme-alabei zerbait gertatuko zaien beldur. “Iruñea, hiri irekia” proiektuaren bidez, zentro horretan nola lan egiten duten ezagutzera hurbildu nahi izan genuen, eta bertan ostatu hartzen duten gazte horiek ingurunean duten irudi negatiboa aldatzen lagundu nahi genuen. Irudi hori, gehienbat, funtsik gabeko gezur eta informazioetan oinarritzen da.
Topaketa bat bultzatzeko modua, gazte hauek trebatzen zituen, Nafarroako Saskibaloi Federazioaren ekimen bati esker sortu zen. Ideia gazte hauen eta ikastetxeko ikasleen arteko kirol topaketak antolatzea izan zen. Ikastetxeko zuzendaritzari eta Guraso Elkarteari informazioa eman ondoren, eta Gorputz Hezkuntzako irakaslearen laguntzarekin, eskola-orduetan egingo ziren partidak prestatu genituen.
Zoritxarrez, Covid-19aren ondorioz, topaketa hauek ezin izan dira gauzatu, baina jarraitu dugun prozesuak gure adin berekoak diren gazte hauek ezagutzeko balio izan digu, baita beraiekiko sortzen diren estereotipoak eta gorroto-diskurtsoak eraisteko ere.
